“To console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.”—Isaiah 61:13 NLT

New Year Eve of 2014 about six months after Ike’s death as she wailed about “leaving Ike in 2014” and moving into 2015, she could feel God’s presence and comfort. In His comfort, she felt He wanted her to write this book as titled. After publishing the first book she made several attempts to write this book but did not feel the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Beginning of 2020 she felt The Lord wanted this book to be published by the end of the year. This book was published on December 30th, 2020. Why did it take her five years to publish the second book and only took one year to publish the first one? The answer is in the book.

The loss of a child is one of the worst tragedies of all time. The scar from this tragedy runs deep and sometimes hard to heal. In this book, Dr. Indira Onwuzurike tells of her journey through the dark pit of grief, and how God pursued her into the pit. Leaning completely on God’s presence and comfort He was able to rebuild her from the inside out.  God restored the joy of the Lord by healing her completely from all pain, sorrow, and shame of tragedy. In the process, she discovers Life-altering truths about God. Yes, complete healing, without any lingering grief symptom is completely possible after the death of a child!

The greatest nightmare a parent faces is the loss of a child. On June 17, 2014, this nightmare became a reality for the Onwuzurike family when their oldest son, Ike, drowns while hanging out with friends. The 18 – year- old had just graduated from an all-boys Catholic high school and was on his way to Washington University in St. Louis on a full academic scholarship to study pre-med. Ike lived a life of dedication to God and service to others, putting God first at all times, and he touched many lives in his short times, and he touched many lives in his short time on Earth. Ike’s family found comfort in the fact that Ike was able to live for God by really getting to know who God is, by spending time with Him in prayer and reading His Word. They knew it was impossible to love someone if you didn’t know who that person was; Ike’s love for God was genuine and heartfelt and enabled him to serve others. It is not how long one lived on earth rather how many lives did one influence for Christ.

Some losses are unimaginable, but losing Ike to God and How God Comforted Us reminds us that with the grace of God and His healing, even the unthinkable loss of a child can be overcome.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26 NKJV
